There are two types of SHRM-SCPs: the Specialized Independent Expert Researcher (SIR) and the Specialized Clinical Trial Researcher (SCRT). The former is a professional with at least a master’s degree in the field of health care, who has completed a rigorous screening process that evaluates the candidates’ suitability to provide specialized certification in health care. The latter is a professional with at least a bachelor’s degree in the clinical area who has completed a comprehensive clinical trial evaluation and has successfully passed an examination assessing his or her competence to be a certified SHRM-SCP.
As an SHRM-SCP, a professional will have completed an examination assessing his or her knowledge and expertise about specific topics related to HR management, human resources, medical, pharmacy, patient education and counseling and others. A candidate must successfully pass this examination before being considered for certification. After successful completion of this examination, the person is required to complete a minimum of 500 hours of paid training as well as the certification. This training is supervised by a certified professional with experience in the field. After certification, someone becomes a SHRM Senior Certified Professional.
