The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AAESHEC) is an organization for sex educators, sexual health counselors and therapists. They offer courses, workshops, seminars and workshops that address a variety of sexual education issues. They also have an online directory of local sex educators and therapists. The AASHEC also offers certification programs to help sex education professionals obtain state, county and national certifications. In addition, they offer free referral information to sex educators who want to teach “AIDS prevention” to teens and young adults. The National Board for Certification of Sexual Education and Health (NBCEH) is the accrediting agency of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists.

Anyone can become a member of this organization but cannot become certified until they complete a program of at least six months, after which they must pass a test for continuing education credit. The following is a sample syllabus of a Sexuality Education Specialist (SES) course. This is the minimum requirement, however, you should check with your local board for the exact requirements.

If the American Association of Sexuality Educator supervisor candidate receives accreditation from the National Educational Association, that means they have met the established criteria. Furthermore, the individual must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college. At this point, the person must achieve a supervisor title as well, which demonstrates their managerial skills. These are the two general qualifications required for the position. Sometimes the applicant has additional qualifications, such as experience or training experience in a specific field; this can be used as a qualification in the interview process.

In order to apply for employment as a sexuality education and counseling supervisor, the applicant must meet the following requirements: Be of legal age; possess a high school diploma or its equivalent; have passed the GED exam; and possess a bachelor’s degree in either the field of sexual education or counseling from an accredited university or college. In addition, applicants must also have obtained a certification, which shows they have completed at least one hundred (100) hours of basic training in sex therapy or counseling. Candidates with a GED will need to pass a certified sex therapist examination. This examination is recognized by the American Association of Sexuality Educator and Counseling, Inc. (AASEC). Candidates who pass this examination are awarded a certification.

The applicant needs to fulfill content requirements for each section and acquire a minimum of twenty (20) hours of specialized training or experience. Some of these sections are covered under the General Education Diploma (General Studies) or General Educational Development (GED). Other sections require the applicant to obtain an Accreditation in Sexuality and Erotic Therapy from an accredited institution of higher learning.

For each section, the applicant needs to pass a written proficiency test (usually consisting of at least forty (40) minutes of reflection and comprehension instruction), a background and reference check, a competency-based skill assessment, a performance appraisal, and a satisfactory rating on the competency and knowledge sections. Applicants may also be required to participate in a supervised clinical practice exam. If an applicant successfully completes all of the requirements, he/she will receive his/her certificate.
