The National Registry of Environmental Professionals is the first independent agency created under the Clean Air Act to provide voluntary certification to environmental professionals. Anyone with a green degree, two years or more of experience, and a current occupation in the environmental field is qualified to become a member of NRES. Members can also take the qualifying exam for the National Registry of Professional Responsibility for Environmental Programs (NRRP). The certification will be accepted by other organizations such as National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSA).

There are basically two types of NRES certifications. One is the global certification, which is offered by five countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Japan. The second one is the regional certification, which is offered by four countries, including United States, Germany and Japan. The Global Certificate is the most popular among the two because it offers higher recognition value compared to the other two. The National Registry of Professional Responsibility for Environmental Programs also offers several incentive programs for members.

One of the incentives offered by the NRES is the discounted fee structure. All the members who want to pursue their certificate or training are required to pay a low fee for an entire year’s course or program. In addition, some organizations offer bonuses to their members if they enroll for the entire year without missing any sessions. The National Registry of Professional Responsibility for Environmental Programs also offers an associate program for $125. This program helps environmental professionals to enhance their knowledge in the field of environmental certifications.

As per the regulations of the National Registry of Environmental Professionals, all the members who want to procure the certification must take an examination which covers general information about the nature of their profession. The examination also consists of two sections, each of which is given at different dates. The first section includes general content and information about the professional members. The second section consists of specialized and technical details about the work environment, special situations, and other areas. Once the candidates successfully complete the first section, they can apply for the certification.
