The National Board for Professional and Ethical Clinical Practice (CBEPP) offers two different certification programs: the Professional Practice Examination (PPE) and Code Of Ethics Approved (CEA). Both of these programs require a written examination as well as both a written and clinical report. Individuals who successfully pass the two examinations will receive a Professional Credentialing Examination (PCE) and a Code of Ethics Approved (CEA). Individuals who successfully complete the two examinations will become eligible to take the qualifying exams for certificate of completion. Individuals will pay someone to do the certification exam and then take the qualifying exams to become certified as a clinical therapist. The Certified Clinical Psychologist (CPCP) credentialing is currently the highest credentialing program in the United States. The certification program was created to recognize those individuals that have completed an outstanding education and clinical experience in clinical psychology. Individuals who are working in this field will need to be knowledgeable in the areas of psychology, mathematics, social sciences, and clinical decision making. In order to work as a clinical supervisor, you will need to obtain an ACS. There are several different ways to get an ACS. You can get an ACS through your employer, the American Board of Therapy (ABT), or by becoming a member of the organization, the Clinical Supervisors International (CSI). All three of these options are valid for four years and you will still be required to pass the examinations after four years. If you choose to become a member of the CSI, you will also need to participate in continuing education training (CE) on a yearly basis. An additional requirement of the CSI is that you should have at least ten working hours of clinical experience.
Once you have the certificate, you can begin your career as a clinical supervisor. In addition to getting employment with a local therapy center or hospital, you can apply for jobs in research facilities and medical centers as well. There are many benefits to being employed with an ACS. Some of the benefits include earning more than minimum wage, advancing your position faster if you are hired, having access to higher compensation packages, and the ability to apply for national level awards such as the Senior Certified Clinical Practitioner (SCCP) or the Registered Clinical Specialist (RCS) certifications.
The SCCP certification is usually more highly coveted than the RCS certification. The SCCP certification requires you to have completed at least 200 hours of continuing education through the American Board of Therapeutic Trades (ABT) or the National Board of Therapeutic Examiners (NBET). You will also have to successfully pass a four-hour examination from accredited institutions and get licensed in your state. Although it costs more money than the RCS certification, the rewards are much greater.

After you pass the certification examination, you can then apply for the job of a clinical supervisor. If you are hired, the supervisor salary will be based on an hourly basis.
