In order to get certification as a project manager, you will have to take the PMP exam, which is offered by APMP, although many schools and training providers to offer the CPM exam that is offered by AMP. Some of the big names offering CPM training courses are Black Belt training providers e.t.c. and NACE. The certification test for CPM is actually taken online and can normally be taken just a few days before the exam. It is highly likely that if your employer requires PMP certification, it is simply a requirement of your company’s human resources department.
If you are interested in getting certified, you need to make sure you do it right. Many students start by taking the easy CPM exam and then wonder why they don’t pass. There is many different Project Management Courses out there. The one that I recommend is the Project Management Institute (PMI). They are the only institute that offers real world experience with Project Management as well as the necessary training to prepare you for the certification test. They are located in Pennsylvania. However, if you live anywhere else in the country, you can get your education at another excellent institute as well.
The Project Management Professional Association (PMPA) also offers training. Their courses are available in most countries across the globe. The Project Management Institute doesn’t accept new students who are enrolled in accredited graduate programs. If you plan on going straight into the PMI program, it is highly recommended that you get some practical experience first. That will prepare you much better for what is to come in terms of the Project Management Professional Certification Exam.
