Environmental engineering is the application of scientific principles to the design, analysis and maintenance of a building, plant, or site. In this field it combines the disciplines of civil and structural engineering to produce systems that can be used to protect people, property, and the environment. There are currently several hundred certified engineers in the United States. In order to become one, an individual must undergo the proper training and pass an exam that assesses his or her specific area of expertise.

Two types of exams exist that will help identify qualified engineers: Professional Development and Specialization Examinations (SPDEs). In a SPDE, an engineer is assessed on one or more areas of engineering practice. A Specialization Examination tests a person’s ability to design and maintain specific structures and systems. It is important for any professional in this field to be able to successfully complete this certification test. The National Association of Home Builders (NHRB) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) provide these tests.

Certification requirements vary from state to state. In many states, the only legal requirement for obtaining an engineering license is that an individual pass the SPDE. Once approved, however, an engineer may choose to pursue further education or to pursue a career related to their certificate. In addition to obtaining an engineering license, most states require professional development or continuing education credits in order to retain a certification. These credits are not typically required for obtaining an environmental engineering certification.

In most states, a professional engineer will be required to successfully complete an SPDE, before being able to apply for the necessary engineering licensing. There are two different types of environmental engineering certifications available: Specialist Engineer (SFE), and Practitioner Engineer (PFE). Both types of certifications must be renewed periodically, in order to keep the status qualified.

The Specialist Engineer designation requires that an engineer hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a field related to their certification. Most applicants for this designation will also be required to successfully complete the SPE exam. Upon successful completion of the exam, the engineer will be considered a specialist. In order to keep the designation, it is required that the engineer take a re-certification examination every three years.

The Practitioner Engineer designation requires that an engineer have at least a master’s degree in a field related to engineering. A number of professionals consider this to be a higher level of certification than what is required for the Specialist designation. This certification requires that an engineer take and pass the SPE exam. Once certified, the practitioner will be required to take a re-certification exam every three years.

It is possible to earn a PE designation even if one did not earn an engineering degree. In order to do this, the individual must apply for a PE status and then follow all of the steps to become certified. Once certified, the engineer must continue to uphold their certification.

An engineer may choose to be self-certified. In order to do this, they will need to get a letter of certification from an appropriate agency. In order to be self-certified, the engineer must pass all of the required exams for the certification. If an engineer wishes to go this route, they should make sure that the letters of certification they receive are from agencies outside of their area of expertise. In most cases, an engineer will not want to go through the process of re-certification.

Most of the environmental engineering certifications require that an engineer take and pass a re-certification exam every two years. However, there are some certification exams that need to be taken only once. In this case, the engineer can choose to take the certification exam for the first time when they become certified. There are also some exams that are made slightly more difficult than others. In this case, the engineer will need to take the certification exam once for a longer period of time in order to achieve their goal.

The good news is that many agencies offer re-certification programs for environmental engineering. In some cases, these certification programs are also offered online. Many times, these programs can be completed in as little as eight weeks. The agency will pay for the exam costs, and the engineer will be automatically re-certified upon completion of the program.

There are a number of environmental engineering certification exams online that can be taken by anyone. These exams have simple tests that only require basic information. Students can complete these tests and earn a certificate that is valid for three years. Once the engineer has their certificate, they will be able to work in the field as an assistant to a registered professional engineer. Once the engineer passes the certification exam, they will be able to apply for a job in the field.
