There are several types of PHR certifications. One type is the Shrm-CP (Human Resource Certification Program) certification. According to this certification, employees can take an exam to prove their knowledge of human resources subjects. Shrm-CP syllabus is designed to be comprehensive and cover various aspects in the career of human resource employees, including benefits administration, compensation, employee relations, recruitment and hiring, recruitment, supervisory, technical skills, and developing and managing talent.
There are several organizations offering the Shrm-CP exam. Two of these are the American HR Colleges and the National HR Consultants Association. The American HR Colleges offers a regular test series for Shrm-CP exam. The test series is conducted at least once a year. The schedule can be seen on their website.
The National HR Consultants Association offers an independent exam for certifiedshr-scp and certifiedhr-scp holders. Its test series is conducted two times a year. Candidates to the American HR Colleges’shr-scp exam may take the exam online or by mailing in the written examination and payment for the study guide. In addition to the study guide and the examination, there are four practice tests that are available.
The American College of Healthcare Finance has a series of three certifications: Licensed Health Reimbursement Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician and Certified Professional in Health Care Management. All the three certifications comprise the PHR: Professional in Human Resources exam structure. Candidates who successfully earn the said certification will have the chance to take the board’s National Council Licensure Examination. On the other hand, the National HR Consultants Association offers a board certification for theshr-scp (formerly known as the cpr-4 certification) and a supplementary cpr-4 certification. Candidates to this exam must possess at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
As for the PHR: Professional in Human Resources examination structure of the National Certification Board for Health and Safety, all the certifications comprised the PHR: Professional in Human Resources examination consists of two parts, the first part is composed of the skills test and the second part of an interview. The interview portion of the exam comprises a written exam and a skills examination. The National Certification Board for Health and Safety offers several different versions of their exam: the Test of Practical Knowledge (TPL) for those with a bachelor’s degree; the Test of competency in performance (TCP) for those with at least a master’s degree; and the Test of Registered Skills (TRS) for those with a Ph.D. Furthermore, these exams are available in different versions for those working in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.
All the certifications mentioned above require that candidates pass several written exams and one skills examination. These exams must be taken under the supervision of a doctor and may be taken once a year. Furthermore, to be qualified for any of the aphr (certifications) one needs to meet specific educational and work requirements. For instance, to be eligible for TCP you need to have a nursing degree or have completed an approved hospital or other healthcare training program. In order to take the TRS exam you need to have at least a bachelor’s degree.
The primary goal of all the certificates and the exams mentioned above is to assure employers and potential employees that the candidates have met certain standards of competency in relation to the particular field of expertise. If the candidate fails the certification examination, he or she can expect to be placed on probation. There are also several different versions of these certifications for the different fields of expertise: the Service Provider (SP) designation, the Registered Health Assistant (RHSA) designation, the Field Service Technician (FST) designation and the Nutrition Management Specialist (NMS) designation. Each of these acronyms is used to specify a specific area of experience relevant to the health and safety sector.
